Android phones are quickly becoming the latest dime-a-dozen technology product. There are too many phone manufacturers making too many devices. There is not enough quality being put in to the Android devices because there is another smartphone just like the one you bought that comes out 1 month later with a newer, better screen, or processor, or software, etc..
How come Apple’s iPhone is still one of the most popular smartphones around the world? Apple make quality products, Apple only releases them once a year, so Apple customers know that they are guaranteed one of the best smartphones for at least a year, while other Android manufacturers can only guarantee for that for a month at best.
That said, Verizon has been very busy lately, spewing out Android smartphones like the new Samsung Galaxy S III, DROID RAZR Maxx, HTC Rezound, and many others, so where does the HTC Incredible 4G fit in? If you want to find out, keep reading my review of the HTC Incredible 4G!
Just reading the specs on the Droid Incredible 4G, you can tell this is a beast of a device! If you purchase the newest HTC smartphone, you’ll be rewarded with Android 4.0 (Ice Cream Sandwich), 4in qHD screen, 1.2 Ghz dual-core Snapdragon 4 processor with 1GB of ram, 8 GB of internal memory and a host of other features, including Beats Audio.
The original Droid Incredible was known for its impressive “sports car inspired design”, and the Droid Incredible 4G stays true to the original design.
The back of the device is made of a soft plastic and has a removable back panel for easy access to the micro sim, battery, and the micro-sd slot. All the newest LTE devices from Verizon Wireless now come with a SIM which will make swapping phones much easier in the future, as well as making it super-easy for people traveling outside of the US. Also included on the back of the Incredible 4G is the iconic Incredible red camera ring that was present on the original Incredible.
The display is HTC’s qHD screen which measures in at 960×540 and for the mid-range-smartphone market, does quite well. I didn’t notice any color bleeding, all colors stayed true, and even in direct sunlight, I was still able to clearly read text on the Incredible 4G.
Performance on Android devices has always been a sketchy situation as there has been the “Android lag” issue that plagued many devices. While this device does run Android 4.0, it does not have 4.1 installed which seemed to patch the lag issue. That said, the Snapdragon 4 processor in the Incredible 4G scrolled web pages, emails, and homescreens very smoothly.
HTC equipped the Droid Incredible with a 1700 mh battery which should get a light-to-normal user throughout a full day without looking for a charger, but if you are a heavy user that checks Twitter, emails, Facebook, or browses the web regularly, I’d recommend you get an extended or a replacement battery.
One area that HTC has improved vastly on in their recent devices is the camera. I found the color was a bit soft, but shutter speed and responsiveness are all acceptable and present no issues when trying to snap a photo of a moving object.
HTC did an amazing job with the camera on the Droid Incredible 4G! It is certainly among the better cameras which I have used on an Android smartphone, especially at this price point, despite the colors getting washed out a bit in direct sunlight!
Data / Reception
Being a 4G LTE device, you can expect super-fast data speeds on your device and with Verizon expanding their market’s aggressively; you shouldn’t have trouble finding reception. In my tests I was averaging a data speed of 9.5 Mbps down and 4 Mbps up, speeds which make it super easy to stream movies or TV shows with almost no lag.
The only concern I have with the HTC Droid Incredible 4G is not anything about the device itself, but rather with the competition on Verizon’s lineup of Android Smartphones. Buyers have the option to buy the Samsung Galaxy Nexus at $99.99 and the Samsung Galaxy SIII is only $199.99 ($50.00 more), and with the $149.99 price tag on the Droid Incredible 4G, it makes it harder to recommend the Incredible 4G because for just $50 more (or less) you can get a Samsung Galaxy Nexus or Galaxy S III, both of which are amazing devices.
You can read more about the HTC Droid Incredible and purchase HTC’s newest smartphone on Verizon Wireless’ website.
